Sascha from Netbooknews takes a look at a pre-production sample of Viewsonic’s upcoming Pinetrail VNB108 netbook.
It’s got the usual Pinetrail netbook specs: 10.1” 1024 x 600 display, Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB RAM and a 250GB HDD and no doubt it’ll ship with Windows 7 Starter. Usual array of ports, too: 4-in-1 card reader, 3x USB 2.0, audio jacks, VGA, LAN and Kensington lock.
Battery situation and upgradability don’t look too good: Comes with a 3-cell battery which is very small - nothing wrong with that but it can only mean that the 6-cell battery will stick out like a tumor. No access panels on the back, but they might do something about that in the final retail version.
Despite those, major points for a wide keyboard, matte finish all over and a matte display. Nice going there.
No word on pricing yet but it’ll be available from February.

Haha, love Sascha’s sigh of relief about the matte display finish.
