Update 2: My ASUS Eee PC 1201T Review is now up.

Update: Looks like I have jumped the gun - the processor doesn’t seem to be dual-core.

If you remember when the manual for the 12.1 ASUS Eee PC series was revealed, there was a third model besides the ION powered 1201N and GMA 500 powered 1201HA. The 1201T. Port locations seemed to be somewhere in between the two but that’s all the information we had at the time.

Specs were officially announced at some press event in China today. The Eee PC 1201T will come with an AMD Congo dual-core MV40 (1.6GHz) processor and ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics. Too bad the 1201T doesn’t have a HDMI port.

Don’t expect good battery life with AMD’s platform; we’re looking at 4 hours with it’s 6-cell battery.

ASUS Eee PC 1201T specs:

  • 12.1” 1366 x 768 display
  • AMD Congo dual-core MV40 (1.6GHz) processor
  • RS780MN chipset
  • ATI Radeon HD3200 integrated graphics
  • 2GB RAM
  • 320GB HDD with online storage
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • VGA, 3x USB, LAN, audio jacks
  • 296mm x 208mm x 27.3 - 33.3mm
  • 1.4kg Weight

Nice find! Very interesting news. If this is a 100$ cheaper, sign me up!

I doubt this is cheaper as atom is an extremely cheap processor, however since this doesn’t have ‘ion type’ graphics and I can only assume that it will have poorer battery life since (ion isn’t that bigger strain on the battery), price could well be the only thing going for this. Personally either get the ion version or get a CULV - simple :-)

I love it. HP uses the -t suffix to denote pentium models, and -z to denote AMD.  Now Asus has -t to denote AMD?

Factor in the fact that there is no hdmi, Im sure this has to be a minimum of 50$ cheaper.  The n330 is very cheap but so is neo, and ion adds about 50 to 150$ extra (in Canada atleast) to the price.
Also factor that the 1201h is priced at 320$, the 1201n at 520$......420$ makes alot of sense!

Andy 11/30 at 11:16 AM

I was talking from a manufactures POV meaning that Asus are either making a very slim profit with this version and a huge one with the 1201n or they must actually be selling this at a loss.

I have a new concern.  I dont think is a dual core neo.  There no mention of X2 or l335 anywhere.  You can have a single core neo’s on the new congo platform.
Fudzilla seems to agrees.

It doesnt have bluetooth too!

The MV-40 model is exclusively a single core AMD Athlon Neo processor. It doesn’t say anywhere on the AMD website that it has a dual-core version. All AMD dual-core processors are tagged “X2”, as you guys may already know. The MV-40 doesn’t have the “X2” tag. Officially, it’s known as:

AMD Athlon™ Neo Processor for Ultrathin Notebooks (MV-40)

Note that they do have a couple of Dual-core Neo processors, but they’re completely different models altogether. The AMD website lists the two X2 processors below.

  AMD Athlon™ Neo X2 Dual-Core processor (L325)
  AMD Turion™ Neo X2 Dual-Core Mobile processor (L625)
