Late this week, I discovered the 12.1” MSI Wind L2100 (L2100-036US) notebook quietly pop up on the MSI product pages, which appears to be identical to the MSI Wind U210 except that this one comes with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Well, it’s now on sale at Newegg.com for $429.99. (Shipping and Tax not included).
I’m not sure whether it’s branded as a “Wind” model though, as it’s in the “Wind” section at MSI, but no mention of it here and the numbering is different.
The MSI L2100-036US features:
An 12.1” 1366 x 768 display, AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 (1.6GHz) processor, AMD Radeon X1250 graphics, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 1.3MP Webcam, Gigabit LAN, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Ports: 3x USB, VGA, HDMI, auio jacks, 4-in-1 card reader. 6-cell (5200 mAh) battery.

Don’t buy this, it has no DXVA acceleration support in the obsolete X1250 IGP and if the more powerful CULV CPUs can’t handle 1080P Flash video on Youtube, the weaker Athlon Neo certainly can’t either.
Flash Player 10.1 will not help out either since the obsolete, outdated X1250 IGP doesn’t support full H.264 decoding offload to GPU.
You sure about the second part Ion? From your username I detect a bit of bias
The 690 chipset is 3 years old soon. The GPU is based on X700 architechture, over 5 years old, it doesn’t even support Shader Model 3.0. You can run DXVAChecker on it and it will show you the acceleration capabilities of any GPU. You’ll see it doesn’t support H.264 bitstream decoding, MODEH264_VLD_NoFGT is what you are looking for.

“AMD’s 690G chipset February 28, 2007”
“The 690G’s Radeon X1250 graphics core is derived from the Radeon X700—that is, from ATI’s previous generation of desktop GPU technology, before the Radeon X1000 series.”

“ATI’s Radeon X700 XT graphics card September 21, 2004”
Bias? More like the truth hurts when people are buying obsolete, outdated parts when there’s better hardware around and I’m telling it as it is.
Go ahead and install Flash Player 10.1 beta on any netbooks using the X1250 IGP and see if your CPU usage is low on the Athlon Neo MV-40 like what the Ion GPU can do.
Very informative stuff. Does ATI not have a mobile graphics solution based on a newer GPU?
Just trying to expand my options.
Is there any 11”/12” notebook/netbook out there that is in the same price range of L2100 that is worth buying?
Well, I hear it has a free PCIE Mini slot… Broadcom HD that puppy, and all your video and flash woes will be gone…
What Ion is saying right now is not true at all. I am currently typing this from an L2100, and not only can it play full 1080p videos (including Youtube), it can also output the 1080p picture out of a built in HDMI port to your HDTV.
I have used this computer to play fairly recent games like battlefield 2 and gta san andreas all successfully on the “high” graphics setting.
It’s a great computer, especially for the price (for me, $379).
I’m loving my new L2100. The perfect 2nd string computer. Other than this, I’m Mac - totally. Win 7 impressive. MSI very well done!
