Phil, over at the Notebookreview forums has a review up of the new 11.6” Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T or 1410 as it seems to be called in the US. He picked his up in Europe. It’s now available for pre-order in the US at JR.com for $450.
The 1410 is almost identical to the Acer Aspire One 751 physically but has more powerful guts. It comes with a more powerful Intel SU3500 (1.4GHz) processor and Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics.
The 6-Cell 5600 mAh battery is flush with the bottom of the machine, unlike on the Acer Aspire One 751.
Here’s a quick comment about the speed:
It felt very snappy to me. Using the 1810T as a desktop, browsing with 20 tabs and playing some music in the background there was never a hick up. Hard drive performance was good, as applications and windows opened quickly.
Sounds quite good considering there are 20 tabs open in his browser. Performance wise it sits somewhere in between the 751 and the Sony Vaio TT (all 11.6-inchers)
Video performance is not looking too great at the moment though: WMV / H.264 1080P videos played smoothly, but with a 100% CPU load. The more powerful processor in the 1410 still choked on HD YouTube videos. Official specs show hardware support for these though, but it could be a problem on his end.
The 1410 seems to be slightly louder than the 751. I thought the 751 was fanless because I never heard the fan, so the 1410 must be very quiet.

I am looking at 11.6 netbooks because I don’t want to kill my eyes. So I am looking at the Acer 751, HA1101 and Gateway. They all have their drawbacks. I was leaning towards the 751, but the main problem with that and the Asus is teh poor processor. At least teh Gateway is running an AMD. Does this netbook offer any major advantages over the 751 to justify waiting for it? Are any of the 11.6 netbooks any good?

Well, these Acer’s look promising. The Intel Core 2 Solo is more powerful than the AMD in the Gateway. I’m not sure the specs of the graphics cards though, the GMA 4500MHD is a crappy chip. But it beats the socks off a GMA950. The Gateway has a Radeon X1270, which is bad but it might be consistent with the 4500MHD.
Overall, these Timeline series are looking nice. They’re grown up netbooks! Better battery life than the Gateway, I know this for sure.
