Update: Lasted 1820PT ETA from Acer Australia is 22nd December. (source)
Update: Remember there are three models: 1420p, 1820pt and 1820ptz. Check out the models.
The 11.6” Acer Aspire Timeline 1820PT tablet convertible notebook which has been made official in Europe, has begun to pop up in Australian E-tailers priced between $1,354 - $1,599 AUD. ($1,263 - $1,492). Of course notebooks in Australia are ridiculously expensive so they would be much cheaper in the US for example.
I’ve checked all the stores and none of them have the 1820PT in stock yet. A few stores list an ETA of 7 / 8 days though so perhaps it will be available in a couple of weeks.
The specs for the 1820PT in Australia:
11.6” 1366 x 768 multi-touch screen display, Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 (1.2GHz) processor, 2GB RAM (DDR3), 250GB HDD, Gigabit LAN, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, GMA 4500MHD graphics, Windows 7 Home Premium. 6-Cell 5600 mAh battery (8 hours). Available in Black or Blue.
Here’s one example over at K.S Computer’s
Comment from K.S Computers, regarding stock:
Thank you for your enquiry. My supplier’s information is that there is about 10 days to arrive, if there is no further delay.

how much in US dollars [really]? Any ideas.
Ok , these type of E-tailers have been hanging around with the 1820p on their websites since october with the unchanged 7/8 day eta. Unless Acer doesn’t give any announcements these things are just scams based on rumors IMO.
For starters they probably got the info from one of the web pages that got the su7300 frequency wrong some time ago, it’s by no means 1.2 ghz.
It’s all so frustrating, I have no Ideea what Acer is cooking up with this. It’s like they alrdy build a million of em and now their stalling any news because they forgot to put the touchscreens on them or something :P. Sry just me ranting.
Well IMO we’ll be seing them before november ends.
But this is the first time I’m monitoring the release date of an acer product so I can’t make any educated guesses. The only thing that comes to my mind is they are waiting for USA’s Black Friday (Wikipedia says 23-29 nov).
Engadget took the news from here it seems.
Now I know how the internet works.
Some1 in their comments said they contacted acer and availability is pushed back to q1 2010.
I hope this gets released soon in the US. I could really use an upgrade from my NC10 (given that I’m trying to run things like Photoshop, Solidworks, and 3ds Max on it…)
Print media had them advertised in Australian newspapers on the weekend. AUD RRP 1599. Acer’s own Aussie website.
I just ordered one for around $1500 from Harvey Norman. Acer Australia have confirmed that stock has been delayed until the 10th December 2009. Lets hope the it won’t be delayed any longer than that.
I also wanted the optional 3G but apparently it is just a dongle. In any case this extra component is only going to be available via a Telstra plan. Guess thats one way to lock you into an ISP.
Anyone have details of the optional 3G extra? I don’t think what I have been told sounds correct.
Its not something that Harvey Norman stocks online but if you ring them they can order it in for you. One thing that confuses me also is the max memory. http://www.acer.com.au states that maximum is 4GB memory but if you look at other sites, it says that max memory is 8GB. I can only conclude that it is the limitation of the OS and not the hardware. That is, I will need 64bit OS to be able to utilize 8GB. Can anyone confirm this?
I just confirmed with Acer that Max Memory is OS limited so if you want 8 GB you will need to install a 64bit OS
