Acer Launches Veriton N260G Nettop : ION-less Aspire Revo

Acer has launched a revamped Acer Aspire Revo nettop with the same shell but a slightly different color scheme, called the Acer Veriton N260G. It looks like it’s already selling in the UK and Europe already. (not the US)

While the external look is pretty much the same, the insides have undergone a few changes. There’s no NVidia ION anymore. It’s packed with an Intel GN40 chipset with GMA X4500 graphics. On the CPU side, it has an Atom N280 processor, instead of a N230 processor in the Revo.

It still has 2GB RAM options and a HDMI out like the Revo. Comes with XP Home / Pro or Vista Home Premium. Same old 160GB HDD.

Exactly why would I want this over the ION powered Acer Aspire Revo?

Maybe it´s cheaper ;) And according to arstechnica, the X4500(MHD) should bring some video-decoding features: http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2009/02/intel-debuts-new-atom-n280-gn40-chipset.ars

Oh yeah it’s cheaper.. very much so if you go for the XP models.

If it can play HD video, and it’s cheaper, then it would be more tempting! (not into games)

Still, lack of any dedicated audio output is a real shame (on both).. This is the only reason I feel bad about the Acer Aspire Revo.

Thanks for participating!

there are some solutions to get Audio over HDMI to work:

Thanks for that Felix. Sound works fine through HDMI it’s just the hardware side. All you get is a headphone jack on the front. So you will need buy extra cables to be able to connect to an amp.
