AMD brought up their third-generation “Nile” platform aimed at the ultra-thin laptop platform at some meeting yesterday. This is the sector that fits in just above netbooks and we are looking at 7-8 hours of battery life. It will be due out in the first half of 2010. It would be nice to have to competition to Intel’s CULV platform.
AMD also announced a bunch of other technologies like their “Fusion” processor which combines the processor with the GPU but that is way off and won’t be seen until 2011. I don’t even know what market this processor is aimed at anyway.
There’s also the “Yukon” platform due out in Q1 2010, which was initially thought to be aimed at the cheap thin and light 11-13 mini-notebook space (AMD still refuses to mention the word ‘netbook’) but it seems AMD is intending this platform for use in ultraportables (expensive)
Last of all there’s “Bobcat” aimed at the low-cost, low-power mobile PCs, including a dual-core system-on-a-chip but that won’t be out until 2011 either.

has anyone used one of these yet? I’m interested but I don’t want to buy something with a weak battery. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.
