Notebookcheck have their hands on the yet to be released 12.1” ASUS Eee PC 1201PN notebook powered by the next generation ION, or GeForce GT218 with an Atom N450 processor and they’ve put it through an extensive set of tests.
On the outside, the Eee PC 1201PN retains the same chassis as on the recently released 1201N, UL20A and 1201T but now we have much more powerful graphics inside. This isn’t the cut down 8 core version of the next generation ION, it’s the 16 core version.
Benchmark tests show that the Eee PC 1201PN beats all netbooks to date, and shows substantial improvement over the 1201N which has a more powerful dual core Atom 330 processor but the old ION graphics chipset.

There are gaming benchmarks as well. WoW averaged 32 FPS with low detail at a scaled back 1024 x 768 resolution. The Sims 3 managed 16 FPS with medium detail at the same resolution.
As expected HD video playback is fully supported and CPU usage dropped to around 20% for the big bunny H.264 1080p video test. YouTube 1080p HD video played back smoothly windowed but was noticeably dropping frames in full screen. CPU usage was pretty impressive at 30 - 40%.
Battery life with its 47Wh 6-cell battery ranges from 3 hours to 6.5 hours, with 5 hours being obtainable with general use.
