The Pineview Atom N450 (1.66GHz) and N470 (1.83GHz) processors for upcoming netbooks next year are still using DDR2 RAM, however Intel is planning to release N45x and N47x models that will support DDR3 RAM in addition to DDR2 RAM.
DDR3 RAM should provide a performance boost and should end up cheaper next year, more than DDR2 however there is a little more power consumption compared to just the DDR2 supporting Atom Pineview processors. The TDP goes up from 5.5W -> 6.5W for the N450x, the same TDP as the N470. (TDP of N47x not mentioned)
Speaking of the Atom N470 (1.86GHz) processor, Intel is said to be starting production of the processor in mid-January. A launch date in February seems possible though nothing is confirmed. It’ll be priced $20 more than the N450 processor.
