Dell has announced interest in the whole upcoming smartbook scene and they are looking into possible products for that market. They are also looking into providing Google’s Chrome OS on future netbooks.

Like smartbooks, Linux-based netbooks are targeted at those looking for quick access to Web-based applications. “The more [Web-based] applications there are, the better it is for Linux,” Finch said.
Speaking of Linux, In the next few weeks, Dell plans to upgrade their aging Ubuntu 8.04 software currently on netbooks to the latest version 9.04, but this time they will be switching to Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Version 9.10 is just around the corner though with a release at the end of October.
