Taiwan based DMP Electronics is yet another manufacturer looking to release an ultra cheap netbook with their 8.9” EduBook netbook.
Earlier this year Norhtec released the Gecko Edubook, which seems to be the same model, and they actually managed to sell it for under $200. You know, that 8.9” netbook that runs on 8 NiMH AA batteries.
At Computex 2009, we learnt that the makers of the EduBook figured out how to get this device out cheaper. Break it up into parts and ship the parts instead of the whole machine to save costs. At the other end, they can be reassembled in about 10 minutes.
DMP plans to sell their EduBook for $100 using their own x6 compatible chips and has begun shipping to Latin America, Europe and Africa.
