Here’s another nettop, the FunTwist Fiono 330 which was announced back at Computex, and it started to go on sale here in Japan in August.

This nettop has a dual-core Atom 330 processor and is powered by NVidia ION graphics. It is available as a bare-bones model or in some other configurations. Bare-bones as in no OS, no HDD/SDD (2.5” SATA), no Wi-Fi module, and no RAM. It’s available in Japan for 25,00 yen (just over half the price of an ASUS Eee PC 1005HA) and Canada for $300. It is not yet available in the US but FunTwist is looking into it.

I’ve already taken a look inside the device and installing everything is straight forward except the Wi-Fi module. You need to use a USB Wi-Fi module but don’t seem to be that common, but can be sourced on Ebay for around $40. I’ll stick to my $10 Wi-Fi N USB adapter.

FunTwist Fiono 330 nettop specs:

  • Intel Atom 330 (1.66GHz) Processor
  • NVidia MCP7A (ION) Graphics
  • 1x DDR2-800 SO-DIMM socket (supports up to 4GB RAM)
  • 1x 2.5” SATA HDD bay
  • DVI, HDMI, eSATA, SPDIF, Headphone and microphone ports
  • 3-in-1 Card Reader
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Size: 94 x 136 x 55mm
  • Weight: 900g (without HDD/RAM)

Inside the box:

  • AC Adapter
  • User Manuals
  • Warranty Card (1 Year)
  • Stand
  • Screw driver set (with screws for Wi-Fi module)
  • CD (Windows and Linux support)
  • DVI-VGA adapter

I’m really liking the extra I/O ports on the back especially with sound, since my Acer Aspire Revo lacks in that regard. I’ll keep you posted on updates with my progress with the FunTwist Fiono 330 nettop.

Looks a lot like a mac mini.

Nice alternative to the Asrock Ion 330, is there a fan in the funtwist as the Asrock unit has two quiet fans.

There is one fan on top of an average sized heatsink. I don’t know how loud or quite is it yet but I will be getting it up and running tomorrow and should you the insides tomorrow.

Thanks for participating!
