Nicole over at Netbooknews takes a quick look at Intel’s upcoming app store (called App Up) on the Moblin platform. It won’t be a straight port of the Windows version. The interface will be customized so it’s consistent with the Moblin interface and the selection of apps will different with more focus on open source apps. Like with the Windows app store, the Moblin store will allow your purchased apps to run on up to 5 different netbooks. Unlike Jolicloud you can launch apps directly from the store.
Looking good. I used to be sceptical of the app store. I mean, why bother when I can just go and download any app off of the web, however after using Jolicloud I find it is much more convenient having a centralized place to download apps. Not only that I discovered a few interesting apps I probably wouldn’t have heard of otherwise.
