As promised, Qualcomm announced their first smartbook yesterday, at some New York event, and it is from Lenovo (finally, those many rumours can be laid to rest now!) and uses the ARM Snapdragon chipset from Qualcomm. It will be sold via AT&T.
Not much is known at this stage.
There’s no pricing info or release date (it doesn’t even have a name yet) but it will be fully announced at CES 2010 at the start of next year. The Linux based OS was not named. Google Chrome perhaps? It supports HD video though it wasn’t mentioned whether that is 720P or 1080P (I’m betting 720P because Qualcomm mentions a newer chipset with 1080P support). From the only tiny picture sourced (I enhanced it so you can see it better) it looks no different from a netbook, only very thin.
It will have other cool smartbook only features such as being fanless and having instant-on access as well as being cheaper and having longer battery life than current netbooks on the market.
