So, I had a play around with the new Intel Moblin OS 2.0 Beta that’s out for netbooks right now. Overall I’m quite impressed, mostly with the simplistic but fancy effects of the user interface. Being a Beta, I did encounter various bugs. Boot up / shutdown times really fast. Multimedia handling is really slow right now, painfully slow, I find.
I have an OCZ SSD in my ASUS Eee PC 1000HE so it’s really quick. Installation took under 10 minutes. About 7.5 minutes until I actually got to boot up for the first time. Moblin loads up really fast. The desktop shows up in 14 seconds and the full desktop in 23s. Shutdown takes only 6s. Resume from sleep works like a charm and is instantaneous.
I’m glad Wi-Fi, screen brightness and sound worked out of the box, though the sound broke at some point and now I can’t change the volume or turn it off. (the volume never actually changed though even when it was working and it was way too soft).
Anyway just check out the video above.
