According to Digitimes, major notebook ODM manufacturers including Foxconn, Quanta and Compal, are gearing up to release notebooks with frameless screens in H2 2010. Acer and HP are already on board for notebooks.
Now I guess that “frameless” means no or at least a tiny bezel. Not sure what would happen to the webcam. Perhaps we could be seeing 10-inch netbooks with 11-inch screens without the big fat bezel that you get on pretty much most 10-inch netbooks. The same could work for 9-inch netbooks with 10-inch screens. One can only hope!

“frameless” & “edge-to-edge” just mean that the screen & bezel are covered with 1 smooth piece of glass. very much the same way smartphones & external monitors are now being made. not only does this look better but also makes it much easier to clean.
unlike the old days were the bezel was raised away from the screen capturing dirt & dust, which made it very difficult to clean.
the black borders will still remain.
Very good news to hear. Hopefully the resolutions are greater than the boring 1024x600.
Tamipca that is what LG does with its frameless TV’s I really hope its not the case and they have thin bezels. The glass or plastic cover makes them much more reflective, if you love matte LCD’s then avoid frameless like the plague.
It’s not impossible I have a Philips 9664 HDTV and it has a thin depth/frame and relatively thin bezel but it was by no means cheap.
I’d be surprised if netbooks being in the cheap end of the spectrum get such a luxury feature unless it really allows them to cut costs.
If it was in fact a very slim bezel that would be great.
An edge to edge display and edge to edge keyboard on a netbook would be very nice indeed, and lead to smaller netbooks (as less wasted space).
But yeah, I think Tampica might be right, unfortunately. If so, the glass finish = glossy :/
