Through an interview from TechPulse360 with David Ragone, Marketing Director of NVidia, we learn that NVidia is still focusing on the original ION platform for CES 2010 where more netbooks with ION will be announced. There still aren’t that many ION products on the market and we’ve heard previously that manufacturers are really enjoying sales of NVidia’s “premium” product. He only specifically mentions ASUS and MSI but there should be plenty of other ION products showcased.
They will talk about the next generation ION platform at the event, which David says will launch Q1 2010. I was hoping David was going to address compatibility of next-gen ION with Pine Trail but mostly the interview is about how ION creams Intel GMA (which we’ve heard countless times already) when it comes to multimedia. We’ll have to wait until the event for more details.

Any chance of seeing an ION and CULV combination? I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that it was possible, and that would certainly catch my attention more than Pine Trail + ION.
It’s certainly possible but probably comes down to price as you can get a GMA4500 series with the CULV lines which is as capable as Ion when it comes to multimedia but very likely cheaper.
Charlie Demerjian has discovered that the Ion 2 is basically an even weaker version of the DX10.1 GeForce G210 GPU for desktop PC’s (which has also been renamed to the G310 & is the bottom of the barrel part).
