The Pegatron smartbook concept model strikes again in the UK for another office demonstration this time with a pink model instead of black (see previous meeting).

What is interesting here are comparison pictures between an ASUS Eee PC 1005HA netbook and the Pegatron smartbook. There’s no netbook on the market, not even the ASUS Eee PC 1008HA Seashell, that comes close to this thin and light Pegatron smartbook.

It’s 2-Cell 4400mAh battery, which is flush with the machine, is expected to reach 8 hours of battery life. It weighs only 850g. It’s fanless and doesn’t need air vents.

This model has 512MB RAM and storage is provided through an SD Card. Other specs: 8.9” 1024x600 Display, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, VGA out, 2x USB and 1x Micro USB, Line in and speaker out.

The system was running Ubuntu 9.01. A few hiccups were encountered but overall the smartbook seemed quite responsive.

As we have heard before, the plan is still to get smartbooks out before Christmas.

Quite a leap in power consumption, getting that same performance out of just a two cell. I’m also liking the lower heat generation, could be useful for something like a waterproof pc/tablet. My only dislike is the lack of Windows support, but maybe that will change, and Ubuntu is a pretty full-fledged OS, not sure about the others.

Yeah the OS.. is going to make or break these Smartbooks.

Thanks for participating!

Looks nice and portable.  But real question is: does it come in not-pink.  ;)
