Update 2: Note that the Sony Vaio T was never discontinued in Japan, at least, and this model has been up since October.
Update: Checking the pre-Windows 7 models of the Sony Vaio T, the only difference appears to be the addition of the Core 2 Duo SU9600 and Celeron SU2300 processors, so it was already CULV ready.
Earlier this year, the 11.1” Sony Vaio T was phased out in the US, facing heavy competition from the upcoming cheap CULV thin and light notebooks that were beginning to become popular at the time. Browsing Sony Japan’s website today, I noticed the Sony Vaio T is back, and now with CULV processors. If you can’t beat’em, you might as well join’em right?
The new Sony Vaio T (TT series - still looks the same on the outside) is configurable with a Celeron SU2300 (1.2GHz, dual-core), Core 2 Duo SU9400 (1.4GHz, dual-core) or Core 2 Duo SU9600 (1.6GHz) processors. For graphics, it has the Intel GMA 4500MHD chipset. 4GB or 8GB RAM. Any choice of Windows 7 editions.
As usual, there are a bevy of configurable storage options with up to 512GB SSD or 500GB HDD, or both. Other options include Blu-ray, Digital TV tuner, 802.11n Wi-Fi and a fingerprint scanner. The large capacity battery offers up to 17 hours of battery life while the small capacity battery offers up to 11 hours. (see all specs)
While the new Sony Vaio T transforms into a CULV notebook, the pricing is still Sony priced, with the cheapest configuration costing 129, 800 yen ($1,405).

Re-surfaced? It was there since October! TT was only discontinued in US, other regions had all received Windows 7 update, with Japan being the only one that offers SU2300 CPU options.

No problem. It happens. I’ll be jumping up and down if TT does make a come back in CULV form in US, though—assuming that TT’s price goes down with the adoption of CULV, but then again, it’s a Sony so you never know… :)
is sony japan still making the vaio tt?
