Back in November last year, one of reps from Stantum demonstrated their awesome multi-touch screen technology on a Dell Mini slate netbook. I was quite impressed with the technology and there were tons of features including 10 point touch, pixel precision, haptics, no need for calibration, pressure sensitivity, high sensitivity and some others. At the time though, there was no news on whether or not we would actually be seeing the tech in laptops / tablets / netbooks.
Over at Mobile World Congress, Stantum announced deals with global chip makers, ST and Sitronix with chips being ready for OEMs in Q2 2010. I know nothing about these chips or companies but apparently that means that the Stantum touch on laptops / tablets is now much more likely. ST says they support screens of up to 11-inch in size.
Stantum had a model on display and LaptopMag dabbled with some paint program. Video seems to suggest the screen is capacitive, but it is resistive.
