Phoronix ran some benchmark tests with a couple of netbook oriented OSes: Chromium OS, Moblin 2.1 and Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. They also threw in a couple of desktop OSes for perspective: OpenSUSE 11.2 and Fedora 12. They used a Samsung NC10 netbook for testing.
Turns out that Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 is the best all-round performer consuming the least amount of power (which would lead to the most battery life) and having the lowest CPU and memory usage.
There was not much between the OSes when it came to performance in daily usage: Video playback, encoding and disk scores didn’t reveal any big differences.
OpenSUSE 11.2, comes in second behind Ubuntu Netbook Remix, which is odd since it’s a desktop based OS while Chromium OS ended up at the bottom which is no surprise since it’s just way too early for anything, really. Moblin 2.1 came in just above Chromium OS. You’d expect more out of Moblin given all the recent updates and all. I would have liked to see Jolicloud in there as well.

Agreed, I think Jolicloud should have been included!
