VIA has announced a new media chipset, the VN1000 which has support for DirectX 10.1, to take advantage of Windows 7 fully, DDR3 memory, 8-channel HD audio codec, support for up to 4x SATA II drives / 12x USB 2.0 ports, and 1080p hardware accelerated playback (H.264, WMV9, MPEG-4/2/AVC, VC1) over HDMI and Display Port. It uses VIA Chrome 520 integrated graphics.
This chipset is optimized to work with the VIA Nano 3000 series of processors and is aimed at all-in-one desktops and just.. general desktops. Consuming up to 12 watts for just the north and south bridges makes it less appealing for netbooks.
